Jean-Philippe Stijns' PledgePage
On October 2, 2005, I will join a group of runners from all over New England to Run the Maine Marathon. To learn more about the Maine Marathon, go to http://www.mainemarathon.com/.
While I am excited about my 3rd marathon, this time I am running for a reason much more important than completing once more the 26.2-mile run. As a new member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Team In Training,” I will run the marathon to assist the Society’s efforts to battle leukemia and blood related cancers. Leukemia is the number one killing disease of children, yet it affects ten times as many adults. Each week there are 2,000 new cases of leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma diagnosed. Until the cause for leukemia is discovered, the Society remains dedicated to supporting research towards a cure and improving the quality of life of patients and their families. The challenge in training for the marathon pales in comparison to the challenge that patients overcome on a daily basis battling this disease. My “Team In Training” coaches, teammates and, most importantly, my enthusiasm ensure that I will reach my physical goals. Your generosity will support not only my financial goals but also the goal of thousands of others trying to beat leukemia. I have committed to raising $2,000 in donations to the Society. 75% of all funds go directly to research and patient groups. I hope you will join me – either financially or in spirit – in this opportunity to “do good.” To make a tax-deductible contribution, simply go to http://jeanphi.pledgepage.org/ and click on Donate. All contributions, regardless of size, are appreciated greatly. The official deadline is June 28th, but I’ll gladly accept contributions that come in after that date. |
